Ponchos for women and men – your companion for autumn and winter

We’re looking forward to the coming season: After this hot summer, we can finally wear our ponchos again. A poncho is actually very simple to make: one piece of fabric, a hole for the head, done. That’s exactly what we love about it. No sleeves, no complicated cut—just pure comfort for women and men alike.

Why we started designing ponchos

The idea came to us in Nepal. Winters there are often sunny, but at the same time bitterly cold. We wanted something that could do both: keep you warm while still looking good. This question led to the creation of our first ponchos, developed together with the family-run businesses we have been working with in Nepal for many years.

On the inside of our reversible ponchos, you’ll find our embroidered mandala. It was designed for us years ago by an artist in Nepal, and the original still hangs in our living room today. Since then, it has appeared on many of our garments, printed or embroidered, as on the reversible side of our ponchos.

To us, a poncho isn’t a fast-fashion item that disappears into the closet after one season. A good poncho lasts through several winters, and that’s exactly why we love our ponchos! 

Why a poncho is perfect for fall and winter

When temperatures drop, you don’t have to squeeze yourself into tight jackets. A poncho keeps you warm without restricting you, no matter how you style it. On a walk, around a campfire, at a festival—a poncho always fits. That’s why it’s more than just a fashion piece to us. It represents a style that doesn’t conform to rigid shapes, no matter who it’s for.

How to wear a poncho properly

The easiest way to wear your poncho is over a solid-colored shirt or top, combined with your harem pants or a close-fitting pair of trousers. If the poncho is patterned, you can keep the layer underneath simple. If it’s a solid color, you can be bolder with what you wear underneath. The principle is the same for women and men; only the pieces underneath differ. Since the sides remain open, a poncho lets cold air through more easily, so feel free to dress warmly underneath.

What’s the difference between a poncho and a cape?

At first glance, both look similar, but they differ in their cut. A cape is open at the front and worn like a cloak, often with a clasp at the neck. A poncho, on the other hand, is pulled over the head and closed all the way around. If you’re looking for plenty of freedom of movement for your arms, a poncho is the right choice for you—whether you’re a woman or a man. If you prefer to be able to open and close the front, choose a cape.

Our poncho styles for women and men

Single-layer cotton ponchos: solid-colored with a contrasting pocket, or made from our woven Baja fabric with its distinctive striped pattern. Lightweight, unisex in cut, and available immediately. Reversible ponchos: two looks in one piece—we’re quite proud of that. One side is plain black with our embroidered mandala, while the other is made from colorful woven Baja fabric or pure cotton. Depending on the day and occasion, you decide which side faces outward. You can find the current selection in our poncho collection.

Abajo and Arriba wool ponchos: made from 100% sheep’s wool, fleece-lined on the inside, with a large hood and kangaroo pockets, in the same cut for women and men. These styles are currently being restocked; individual sizes and colors are already available again, with the rest following in the coming weeks. Which type of wool is suitable for a poncho?

Sheep’s wool is our choice because it naturally provides warmth. In our wool ponchos, the wool on the outside remains natural and untreated. Inside, a soft fleece lining provides additional comfort.

When do you wear a poncho?

Whenever you want warmth without a tight fit, from cool autumn evenings to crisp winter days, whether you’re a woman or a man. Cotton and Baja ponchos are suitable for transitional weather, while wool ponchos are ideal for the colder months.

What do you wear under a poncho?

A solid-colored shirt or top works best, preferably combined with your harem pants. Women can also wear a slim-fitting dress. This keeps the shape defined, and you can add extra layers underneath without creating bulk.

Is a poncho suitable for cold days too?

Yes, especially wool ponchos with a lining. Since the sides remain open, it’s worth wearing a warm top underneath and, on very cold days, adding a scarf.
